bird counting day

It is the RSPB's bird counting day today. You spend one hour watching the birds in the garden and record the maximum number at any one time. Of course, everyone puts out lots of bird food and as a result our garden is unusually empty. I am not sure whether or not we can count the buzzard sitting on the roof of Kitt's Cottage as in our garden. I have never before seen a buzzard sitting like this in the middle of our village, they usually avoid people at all costs; it is another sign I think that their behaviour is changing because of the cold, or else they were aware that it was bird watch day and decided to join in.

Over the last few weeks,we've had a buzzard visit our bird table which is just in front of a large window. We've never had them come this close before. They seem to like bread and meat scraps.

I can see five other birds in your photo of the buzzard. There's one on the flower box to the left, two on the pole, and two in the trees to the right. So put me down for seeing six birds in your village.
We too are seeing lots of birds now; buzzards (we call them hawks), robins, tits, black phoebes, scrub jays, mockingbirds, starlings, hummingbirds, flickers, and woodpeckers just to name a few. And the weather is improving so there is hope for this new year after all.

I enlarged the pic to see the birds...and noticed the sign above the hedge--do I see "toilet"? So the birds know where to go??

That may be better than bird seed! Haha! :0)
