well, May Day has deep pagan roots associated with fertility, and is still celebrated very vigorously and mysteriously locally in places like Padstow ('Obby 'Oss day). For years it has been celebrated as workers day in the old communist block (May Day parades with tanks and missiles parading through Red Square?). When the current Labour government was elected it created a new bank holiday (the banks stop working for a day)

HI Spot

Knew about the Communist celebration, your local celebration, with banks off, is interesting!
