It could be a good year for bullfinches locally. I've seen but one in the last seven years on our feeders. Thus far this year, I've seen one or two almost every day. Perhaps it's due to a change in the seed I'm putting out: perhaps not.

I am not sure. We had a pair in the garden last year who successfully raised a brood so we had 5 or 6 in the garden for a while. I think there is some evidence that these otherwise shy birds are beginning to change their behaviour and come into the garden. Like goldfinches they prefer niger seeds so may be that is part of the explanation.
