happy birthday

.... it is hard to believe this was me aged 5 minutes. Thousands of cards and presents are arriving as I blog. Happy birthday to me and happy birthday to every one in the world especially Mattie, Meg, Vasco, Des, Frodo, Lily, and little Toby

One is a major milestone, now I can join the Army or the police, take my rabbiting test, go into pubs on my own, refuse to see the vet, go for walks on demand ... life has just begun. Posted by Picasa

Spot, after a year of untrammelled luxury, with the kindest and most generous of Masters, isn't it time you thought of Others rather than Yourself and your walks all the time?

What about the poor eaten dogs in Korea? The cadaverous, haunted dogs scavenging the rubbish tips of the third world?

How about giving a nice summer holiday to all those city dogs crammed into little flats in the Ballspond Road, London? OK, they bite and fight but, hey, there are vets nearby here, aren't there?

Come on, Spot, let's see what you are really made of. Start DogFam, or Vetinerarians sans Frontieres.

Over to you...

No, there are many many outlets for charity and concern, and opportunities to describe the grimness and neglect of humankind. I am about the joy of life, without guilt, without the liberal need for pious regret and self flagellation. Sometimes we must just live for its own sake or we become blind to the meaning of being alive at all. So dear rationalist, put down your self conscious guilt and your world weariness and your super ego and share with me, Spot, the joy of living.

You are right, dear old Spot! I have cancelled my subscription to Action Aid and am off to roll in the grass under a blue sky, to be followed by a scrumptious lunch with lots of pudding and fine wine. I will be thinking of you at: www.mcconnells.com/pie&cake.html
